a forest of ideas, stories, creativity and activism
What is 7ORSH?
Welcome to 7ORSH: an exciting and inspiring new idea, the seed of an emerging independent Arts, Culture, Environment and Heritage publication and online platform.
7ORSH (حرش - pronounced Horsh) is an Arabic word for 'forest' or 'woods', with its triliteral root meaning: to scratch; to instigate; to sow; to provoke.
The '7' utilised as a symbol for ح (pronounced 'Ha') originates from the development of Latinised Arabic in the wake of online communication when Arabic script is unavailable.
7ORSH intends to bring together creative and informative thoughts as well as practices of individuals, collectives and communities whose purpose is to inform, inspire and value the continual growth and sustainability of personal, social and environmental justice and well being.
There is particular interest in work and practices that explores creativity and cultural identities, past and present, within and between the Levant and Contemporary / Indigenous Australia.
To highlight the underlying interests and intentions as well as create a set of content guidelines for this publication, 7ORSH contains an acronym for:
